Balijatra, meaning “voyage to Bali,” is one of the grandest festivals of Odisha, commemorating the ancient maritime trade links of Kalinga with Southeast Asian nations such as Bali, Java, Sumatra, and Sri Lanka.
The festival honours the Sadhabas — the brave Odia sailors who once embarked on seafaring expeditions, spreading trade, culture, and goodwill across oceans.
