The newly laid Mondo track at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi is more than just a world-class athletics surface. It is a milestone in India’s sporting journey. Known globally as the gold standard for track and field, Mondo surfaces are where Olympic champions run and world records are made.
By bringing this to our capital, India is reaffirming its commitment to providing athletes with infrastructure that matches the world’s best. This track will also play a pivotal role when Delhi hosts the World Para Athletics Championships (WPAC) 2025, the first time India welcomes this prestigious global event.
Role of Engineering Wing of Sports Authority of India
Equally significant is the role of the Sports Authority of India’s Engineering Wing, whose vision and tireless execution turned this aspiration into reality. Too often, their work remains behind the scenes, but it is their technical excellence, planning, and dedication that ensure our athletes have facilities that protect them, inspire them, and help them perform at their peak.
Sports & Atmanirbhar Bharat
This marks not only a technological upgrade but also the beginning of an Atmanirbhar Bharat era in sports infrastructure, where indigenous capacity and expertise are driving excellence at par with global standards.
This achievement reflects the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and the strong push for sports infrastructure under Union Minister Shri Mansukh Mandaviya ji. Together, with initiatives like this, India is not just upgrading facilities, we are building the foundation for athletes and para-athletes alike to compete fearlessly on the global stage.
