Vision for India’s Sporting Future
Highlighting the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, she stated that India aims to become a Top-10 sporting nation by the 2036 Olympics and enter the Top-5 by Viksit Bharat @ 2047.
Initiatives like KITG are crucial in achieving these national goals by identifying and nurturing talent at the grassroots level.
Strong Grassroots Sporting Culture
Smt. Khadse acknowledged initiatives such as the Bastar Olympics and Sarguja Olympics, which reflect the vibrant sporting culture in tribal regions.
She noted that KITG provides a structured platform to bring this existing talent into the national spotlight.
Focus on Women Participation
The Minister highlighted the success of the ASMITA Leagues, which have enabled participation of nearly 14,000 girls across 124 leagues in sports like football and hockey.
These initiatives have been particularly impactful in rural and Left Wing Extremism-affected regions, creating new opportunities for women through sports.
Talent Identification & Pathway to Excellence
Coaches from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) have been deployed across all venues to identify emerging talent.
Top-performing athletes will be integrated into the Khelo India ecosystem, ensuring a seamless pathway from grassroots to national and international platforms.
Reviving India’s Sporting Heritage
Smt. Khadse emphasized India’s rich civilizational sporting legacy, noting that tribal communities have historically excelled in traditional sports such as teerandazi (archery).
The Games also serve as a platform to revive and celebrate these age-old traditions.
