From cycling to culture, Dehradun hosts a grand celebration of health at the 61st Fit India Sundays on Cycle, while other venues join in with yoga, zumba and rope skipping as warm-up activities.

Dehradun/Delhi, Feb 15, 2026: From the capital city Delhi to the serene sights of Dehradun and reaching almost all districts across the nation, fitness enthusiasts joined the 61st edition of the Fit India Sundays on Cycle (SOC) in nearly 1000 locations.

The Fit India Movement was launched on August 29, 2019, by the Honourable Prime Minister to make fitness an integral part of daily life. The mission aims to bring behavioural change and encourage a more physically active lifestyle. Last year, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya conceptualised Fit India Sundays on Cycle to promote cycling as fitness while addressing obesity and pollution.

Over the past year, the programme has reached the deepest corners of the country, becoming a true people’s movement, driven by citizens with the Fit India Mission acting as a catalyst. Thousands once again took to the streets this Sunday to celebrate fitness.

Najafgarh hosts Delhi event

In Delhi, the popular Sunday event moved beyond the city centre to Najafgarh, home of cricket legend Virender Sehwag, to expand its reach. Locals gathered early morning to participate in the community fitness programme.

"Initiatives like these motivate people of all age groups to step out together. This is not just fitness, it is also community bonding," said participant Ratan Mittal.

Motivating participants were Arjuna Awardee Sakshi Punia, MMA fighter and Fit India Champion Pawan Mann, Fit India Champion Timsy Bector and Fit India Ambassador Shivam Gahlot.

"Fitness is the most important aspect of our lives. When we do it together, it becomes enjoyable," said Sakshi Punia.
"SOC is the largest community fitness movement happening every Sunday," added Pawan Mann.

Dehradun hosts grand main event

The main event took place in Dehradun at the historic Parade Ground. Over 1000 cyclists participated amid misty hills, sal trees and crisp mountain air, transforming the venue into a vibrant fitness arena.

Participants ranged from school students to senior citizens.

"The weather, the crowd and the energy made it feel like a festival of fitness," said Ankit Rawat, a participant.

Senior dignitaries present included former Maharashtra Governor and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari and senior officials from the Sports Authority of India.
