Guardians of Nature Ride Together: Fit India Sundays on Cycle 66th Edition Promotes Fitness & Environment

New Delhi, March 22: A vibrant display of unity and purpose marked the 66th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle, where forest guards in full attire cycled through India Gate, symbolizing a strong commitment to environmental conservation and fitness.

The event, flagged off at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, featured patriotic tunes by an army band and ceremonial conch shell sounds, creating a powerful and inspiring atmosphere.

Fitness Meets Environmental Action

Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Jal Shakti, the event brought together citizens, athletes, forest officials, and fitness enthusiasts under the theme “Guardians of Nature.”

More than 500 cyclists participated, celebrating World Forest Day and World Water Day, while also highlighting India’s upcoming role as host of the Commonwealth Games 2030.

Activities and Participation

The morning began with high-energy fitness activities including Zumba, yoga, and rope skipping. The 1st PSPB Fit India Cyclothon saw enthusiastic participation across all age groups.

Competitive cycling races were held over a 5 km route, showcasing strong performances:

  • SK Prajapati (IOCL) – Winner, Men Below 45
  • Kushmeet Singh (IOCL) – Winner, Men Above 45
  • Preeti Mane (BPCL) – Winner, Women Below 45
  • Ranjana Anand (IOCL) – Winner, Women Above 45

Honouring Contributions

Key dignitaries including Dr. P. Viswakannan were honored for their contributions to environmental conservation. Representatives from IOCL and ONGC were also felicitated for supporting the initiative.

Renowned athletes such as Shilpi Bisht, Mohit Bhandari, Kushmeet Singh, Rashmi Kumari, and Rahul Pradhan were recognized, reinforcing the connection between fitness and environmental responsibility.

A Growing Nationwide Movement

Launched in December 2024 under the guidance of Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative has grown into a nationwide movement encouraging fitness and sustainability.

With participation from lakhs of citizens across thousands of locations weekly, the campaign aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making fitness a way of life while addressing challenges like pollution and obesity.

This edition further strengthened the message that fitness and environmental consciousness go hand in hand, turning a simple cycling activity into a powerful social movement.
