Ranjeeta Priyadarshini Telangana Visit Gains Strong Backing for Paid Period Leave Policy

Hyderabad, Telangana | October 29, 2025 — In a landmark advocacy mission, Ranjeeta Priyadarshini, global champion for menstrual equity and architect of India’s Paid Period Leave (PPL) movement, visited Telangana for three days to engage with political leaders, business houses, and civil society stakeholders. Her visit aimed to catalyze the implementation of Paid Period Leave for working women across both government and private sectors in the state.

On the first day of her visit, Ranjeeta met with Dr. Venkat Balmoor, Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), who assured her of support and offered to help facilitate a meeting with the Labour Minister. She also expressed deep gratitude to Mr. Rohit Kulkarni, Revenue Inspector, Telangana, whose logistical coordination and stakeholder outreach played a pivotal role in the success of her visit.

A major breakthrough came when SVR Enterprises, a Telangana-based company, officially adopted Paid Period Leave for its women employees with immediate effect. Ranjeeta commended the leadership of SVR Enterprises for setting a precedent in corporate menstrual equity and becoming the first private firm in the state to implement the policy. She also extended heartfelt thanks to the Director of ECOF Enterprise, whose support was instrumental in facilitating stakeholder engagement and strengthening the outreach efforts during her Telangana tour.

On October 26, Ranjeeta held a meeting with G. Vivek Venkat Swamy, Minister of Labour, Employment, Training, Factories, Mines and Geology, who assured her that he would raise the issue within the government and take the lead in advancing Paid Period Leave legislation in Telangana.

Prakash Goud, Chairman of TPCC. All expressed strong support for the initiative and acknowledged the urgent need for gender-sensitive labour reforms.

Further strengthening her outreach, Ranjeeta engaged with legislators Mir Zulfeqar (MLA, Charminar), Mohammad Mubeen (MLA, Bahadurpur), and Jaffar Hussain Meraj (MLA, Yakutpura), who pledged their commitment to advocate for Paid Period Leave within the legislative framework. Her final meeting was with R. Krishnayya, Member of Parliament from Telangana, who also assured his support for the policy’s implementation.

Throughout her Telangana tour, Ranjeeta emphasized the importance of inclusive policy design that benefits women across economic sectors. She presented data-backed insights and shared success stories from Karnataka, where 12 days of annual Paid Period Leave have been granted to women employees in both government and private sectors. She also stated that Odisha had already implemented the policy on 15th August 2024, and in Bihar, she met with Minister Dr. Lalan Kumar, who publicly endorsed the Paid Period Leave proposal during a session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. Similarly, in Rajasthan, Ranjeeta’s dialogue with the Labour Minister led to a concrete administrative response: the minister formally directed bureaucrats to study the Paid Period Leave framework and explore its feasibility for implementation across government and private sectors.

Ranjeeta’s advocacy is rooted in a clear mission: to establish Paid Period Leave as a universal workplace right, recognizing the physiological realities of menstruation and the dignity of working women. Her vision has already borne fruit in Odisha and Karnataka, where state governments have adopted PPL policies following her sustained campaigns, strategic dialogues, and public mobilization.
