Asia Cup 2025, Dubai
Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf (formerly Yousuf Yohana) has come under criticism after making a derogatory comment about India’s Suryakumar Yadav on live television. The incident took place following Pakistan’s seven-wicket defeat to India in the Asia Cup 2025 Group A match in Dubai on Sunday.
On-Air Incident
During a panel discussion on Samaa TV, Yousuf deliberately distorted Suryakumar’s name and repeatedly called him a pig. One of the anchors attempted to correct Yousuf, seemingly thinking it was a mispronunciation, but Yousuf continued using the slur. Another anchor reacted with a wry smile during the exchange.
“These guys are not able to get out of the film world,” Yousuf said. “Ye Suar Kumar jo hai… Suar Kumar Yadav. India should be ashamed of the way they are trying to win — getting the umpires in cahoots with them, using the referee to torture (Pakistan). They have probably given the umpire’s finger to (Indian Prime Minister Narendra) Modi; it just wouldn’t get up whenever we appealed.”
PCB Reaction
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed displeasure over officiating, alleging that match referee Andy Pycroft instructed Suryakumar Yadav and Pakistan’s captain not to shake hands at the toss and acted against the ICC Code of Conduct during the game.
ICC and BCCI Response
Neither the International Cricket Council (ICC) nor the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released an official statement on the incident so far.
