Chess Coach Satya Ranjan Patnaik born on 1 August 1972. is an Indian, FIDE Instructor. he is the founder of the S.R. Chess Centre in Cuttack.. He trained several players who have gone on to achieve national and international acclaim.including Grandmasters and Women Grandmasters. satya Ranjan was the first FIDE Instructor from Odisha.
Early Life and Education
Chess Coach Satya Ranjan Patnaik was born on 1 August 1972 in Cuttack. His Father Sarat Chandra Patnaik and Mother Anasuya Patnaik. He completed his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degrees from M.S. Law College Cuttack.
Chess Career
As a Player
He is an Internationally Rated chess player. with an Elo rating of 2105. He has won multiple state-level championships. State Youth Championship and the All Odisha Open Senior Chess Championship. He represented Utkal University in inter-university chess tournaments .he participated in over 30 national and international events. including the National Senior (B), Sub-Junior, Junior, and Under-25 Championships.
Coaching Career
In 1998, Patnaik founded the S.R. Chess Centre. the first professional chess coaching institution in Odisha. His coaching has benefited over 300 players. including students from diverse backgrounds such as undertrial prisoners, visually impaired players, and children with special needs.

Patnaik has organized numerous tournaments at district, state, and national levels, including:

- All India FIDE Rating School Chess Championships
- Inter-Institute and Inter-College Chess Tournaments
He is known for promoting chess in unconventional sectors, including prisons and institutions for the differently-abled.
Editorial and Literary Contributions
Patnaik is the Managing Editor of Odisha Chess Review and has authored a chess book titled Check… Check… Checkmate. He frequently contributes articles to chess journals and sports publications like Kalinga Chess Review, Sports Logon, and The Dharitri.
